WHAT IS PILATES?
Let's look at some history!
Joseph Pilates, from Mönchengladbach, Germany began life as a sickly child suffering from asthma, rickets, and rheumatic fever. His determination to overcome his ailments turned into his life's work. He developed a method of exercise to improve overall strength and wellness for any participant. His work was heavily influenced by his time spent in gymnastics, bodybuilding, martial arts, yoga, and by studying the movements of animals, specifically cats. Joe believed inefficient breathing, a sedentary lifestyle, and bad posture contributed to poor health. By correcting those elements, good health can be restored.
